Domain name management refers to the ongoing tasks of keeping a personal or corporate domain (or domains) stable, secure, and able to support related websites. The domain name not only establishes its owner’s presence on the Internet but also serves as a portal to a business or personal website designed to serve that owner’s unique needs.

Once the name is picked, all you need to do is register it either with an independent registrar or a web hosting company for a term of one or multiple years. Once registered, the name is assigned to a host’s primary and secondary nameservers, which point the domain to a website. Many registrars recommend buying as many related domain names as possible to keep them from being used by competitors.

Domain Name Registration

It’s very important to us to get this bit done right, from the get-go and we register domains on behalf of our customers. That is, we register it in their name, not our own – as some other companies do. That way, they’re the legal owner and we just manage it on their behalf. We always recommend that you have both the .com and .co.uk variant registered for your site and have the main one as the .co.uk; if you’re a UK business, serving the UK.

Domain Name Renewals

All domain names are leased from registries – you never actually own it outright, you simply lease it for a period of years – normally one or two at a time. Mistakenly allowing a domain to expire is one of the worst things you can do – as there are many companies out there watching for expirations, who will purchase it and then hold you to ransom. With our Domain Name Management service, we ensure all domain names are renewed on time, every time.

Frequently Asked Questions

We quite often get asked a lot of questions about our press release services so we have put together some of our most frequently asked questions below to help address some of the more common queries relating to this service.

If we have not answered your question, please get in touch with us via our contact page.

Domain names are like physical addresses for websites. They are used to identify one or more IP addresses so that the correct content can be sent to the device viewing a certain site. A good example of a domain name would be ours, infinity3.co.uk. Anything after the ".co.uk" is simply an identifier used to send the user to the correct page of a website. For example, you are currently in "infinity3.co.uk/frequently-asked-questions".

Domain names allow us to assign an easy to remember text-based label to a certain IP address or website. Businesses buy domain names that are the same as their company name, such as our Domain name (infinity3.co.uk) is the same as our company name (Infinity3).

The price for domain names varies depending on the demand for the domain in question. A brand new .co.uk domain should cost around £10-£15 a year however, there are often "first-year" deals that will give you the first year for a discounted price.

This doesn't mean that all domain names will be that price, there have been domain names sold for thousands, depending on the demand for the domain.

In most cases, you should renew your domain name once a year. The company that you registered your domain name with will send you a reminder before it runs out. If your website is managed externally they will make sure that your domain name is renewed for you.
