Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland provides free palliative care and support to patients and families across North and East Cumbria. We redesigned their website to create a calmer, clearer experience that helps people find the information they need while supporting the charity's fundraising, events and wider community work.
The Project
Making Important Information Easier To Find
The existing Hospice at Home website had become dated, difficult to navigate and increasingly challenging for the team to manage. Important information about services, referrals, events and ways to support the charity could be difficult to find within the site's existing structure.
For this particular audience, that presented a significant problem. Patients, families and healthcare professionals may arrive looking for important information at an already difficult time, so the website needed to provide clear routes to the right support without creating additional confusion or overwhelm.
At the same time, the charity needed a more flexible platform for promoting events, accepting donations, supporting fundraising and managing content internally.
The Approach
Designing Around People And Their Needs
We redesigned the website from the ground up using WordPress, reorganising a substantial amount of content around the different people who use the site and the information they're most likely to need.
Clearer navigation and carefully structured pages help patients, families, healthcare professionals, supporters and fundraisers move through the website more easily. The visual approach was kept clean, calm and approachable, allowing important information to take priority.
We also introduced the technology needed to support more of the charity's activity online, including eCommerce, event management and ticketing, while giving the Hospice at Home team greater flexibility to manage and update the website themselves.
